Description of the Resource: This stone Colonial Revival house was one of five houses built between 1887 and 1896 on a tract of land owned by John L. Ott along what was then called Llanfaire Avenue. Ott had his own house built during this time, and the house at 26 Derwen Road was built for Israel Lafferty Irwin. This house is part of a small neighborhood of residences and buildings dubbed Academyville that were constructed around the Lower Merion Academy. Irwin was one of the Headmasters of the Academy, Superentindents of the Union Sunday School and a teacher at the Academy from 1864-1888. This intersecting gable-roof house has a symmetrical three-bay fašade. It has a pent roof that is broken by a pediment above the central entry. There are three hipped dormers and two chimneys, one on each gable end. An open flat-roof side porch extends off the west side of the house. (10/2012) Three-bay stone house (1896 atlas: I. L.
