Description of the Resource: This brick house was designed by R. Brognard Okie in 1939 as a rental property for William Read. It is situated on a wooded lot at the end of a long driveway and is among a group of three small buildings adjacent to the Schuylkill Expressway and Schuylkill River. This Colonial Revival residence has a cross gabled roof with a large stone chimney where the roofs meet. The house was built into the hill, resulting in a mutli-leveled house. The south-facing wing is 1 stories, with an entrance door on the upper level. The northern and western facades have doors on the lower level. Two dormers, one on each side, protrude from the roof. Okie designed four rental properties for Read in 1939, three of which were built.
